I’m so excited to announce that I’m a judge at the fourth annual GirlCode hackathon taking place early next month in Johannesburg. If you’re a female programmer interested in participating in a 30 hour hackathon, here’s some important info for you:
CRACKING THE GENDER CODE
Date: 5-6 August 2017

There are over R300 000 worth of prizes on the weekend, so every entrant/team stands a chance to win something. The grand prize being a trip to the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing, in Orlando on 4-6 October. The keynote speaker at this event is Melinda Gates!

On the occasion of Women’s Month, we are calling all women software developers to indulge in the 4th annual GirlCode hackathon, which is basically 30 hours of non-stop programming. The hackathon is open to all females, who will work collaboratively to create a website, game, or mobile app that addresses a selected real world challenge. You can participate in teams of minimum two, and maximum four.
The primary goal of this event is to raise awareness of female technical talent and foster a competitive, yet cooperative, and congenial culture for talented female techies.
1st prize: Trip to the Grace Hopper Conference in Orlando, Florida, USA.
2nd prize: Educational Courses
3rd prize: MTN Data
Throughout the weekend, we will be running social media competitions and giving away several spot prizes incl. Devices, Data, Tickets to industry events.
