My name is Nafisa Akabor and I’m a freelance technology journalist based in Johannesburg. Wired to the Web is my tech blog that covers mobile, gadgets, apps, how-tos, travel and cars.
I have been covering consumer and business tech since 2007 after my runner-up award as a Citizen Journalist at the Telkom ICT Awards 2006.
My work appears in newspapers, magazines, online, radio, TV and podcasts. I’ve been published on TechCentral, Financial Mail, Quartz, Mail & Guardian, City Press, Forbes Africa, Forbes Woman Africa, Sawubona, TFG Tech, VISI Magazine, Brainstorm, Digital Life and ITWeb; and lifestyle titles (Your Family, Marie Claire, Women’s Health, Destiny, Edgars Club mag, On-Route travel mag).
I’ve done corporate blogging for brands such as Nokia, Microsoft, Samsung, BCX, iFix, Showmax, Nashua, Vodacom, Barclays, Absa, Mercedes-Benz and Telkom.
I currently contribute tech in a freelance capacity for various titles on an on-going basis, such as the Financial Mail, City Press, Forbes Africa, TechCentral, VISI and Cars.co.za. I also write for niche custom publications and do corporate blogging.
I’m one of the judges for the Cars.co.za Consumer Awards, and previously judged the SA leg of the global TADHACK hackathon; MTN Business App of the Year; the GirlCode Hackathon, and Entelect’s in-house Tech Accelerator initiative.
