Do you love Spotify, Apple Music, Netflix, or Showmax? Basically, paying a monthly fee to get access to a full catalogue of content? This is why I’ve chosen Magzter as my app of the week.

It is a similar app but for the magazine industry. You get access to over 5000 titles on a single subscription, and you can read it from any device like a tablet, PC, smartphone, Android, iPhone, Windows, etc – you get the point. You also get to read stuff offline, similar to putting offline content from your favourite streaming apps. It’s not a new app, it’s been around for years, and I myself have a subscription.

When I travel, I download a bunch of magazines on my iPad to read when I’m bored. They are roughly 40MB if I’m not mistaken, which I get over WiFi. You can also bookmark your favourite articles to access it quickly.

Some categories you can find on Magzter are business, women’s interest, technology, science, automotive, entertainment – basically most titles you’d see in a bookshop or supermarket, but not the exact same selection. You can find Popular Science, Stuff, Macworld, PC World, Forbes, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Essentials, Your Baby, Entrepreneur, etc.

Disclaimer: you can also find some of the titles I contribute to, which is the main reason I have a subscription – Forbes Africa, Forbes Woman Africa and Your Family.

The titles that can be read as part of the subscription has a small yellow magazine icon at the bottom of it, as there are some titles that you need to purchase individually, like Women’s Health.

Magzter has two tiers: Lite and Gold. Lite allows you to read any 5 titles, but Gold lets you read all magazines part of the catalogue, articles and share access with four family members.
Lite: R49 a month
Gold: R79 a month or R699 per year

TOP TIP: Pool together with 3 friends and pay R175 each for 12 months access to all the magazines… that’s like R15 a month to read premium magazines + create a separate email addy for this purpose. You’re welcome.
