GalaxyS3MiniSamsung has made the compact version of the Galaxy SIII smartphone available in South Africa.

The Galaxy SIII Mini is aimed at consumers looking for a more affordable super smartphone without losing the benefit of key features, according to Samsung.

Craige Fleischer of Samsung South Africa says, “The Galaxy S III introduced a new concept of smartphone that has proven hugely popular around the world. We’re now delighted to bring its revolutionary design, intuitive usability and intelligence of the Galaxy S III, in a more compact form.”

The Galaxy SIII Mini features a 4-inch screen (vs. a 4.8-inch on the Galaxy SIII); is powered by Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean); a 5-megapixel camera, 8GB of storage (expandable up to 32GB microSD); Samsung features like S Voice (use your voice to unlock the phone), S Beam (share 10MB files in seconds), and Smart Stay (camera tracks your eyes and keeps the screen lit as long as you are looking at it).

Pricing for the Galaxy SIII Mini starts from R4,599 (8GB) to R4,999 (16GB).
