I attended the launch of a new and locally-unique website called Want Me Wear Me this morning.
Want Me Wear Me is a service that allows South African women to rent designer dresses, hot off the runway – according to Allison and Lyndell (store owners), at a fraction of the retail price.
Both women spoke about how Want Me Wear Me is like a dream online closet and it’s aimed at women who need something for a special occasion, be it a matric farewell, wedding, etc or for those who can’t be seen in the same outfit twice.
Their range includes designers like Armani, BCBGMAXAZARIA, Class by Roberto Cavalli, D&G by Dolce and Gabbana, Elisabeta Franchi, Just Cavalli, Nicole Miller and Versus by Versace.
HOW IT WORKS
Browse through the website with these options: price (cheapest dress is R600); size (30-38); colour; length; trend; body type; occasion; sleeve; neckline; age; style or designer. Choose a rental option – either to be delivered a day or four days before your event. Dresses are fetched the next business day after the event, in a pre-addressed envelope, provided when it was couriered to you. So the price listed on the website includes delivery, return AND cleaning – which is taken care of by Want Me Wear Me upon return. The site itself has a clean look and easy to navigate. Love the extensive list of options to sift through.
I like the concept and think it has potential to take off. If you calculate how much it costs to buy a dress; or buy fabric and get it stitched, it still works out cheaper than buying a dress, never mind a designer dress. And special occasions don’t come by all the time.
