The free WiFi was launched today at the airport, along with the temporary MWEB Unwired Space Lounge for the month of December.
Important things to note is that the WiFi will be free for the initial phase, and after three months, MWEB will make the first 30 minutes free and thereafter, R10 per hour will be charged.
The WiFi will be uncapped, which was quite speedy on launch day, and while the company says a fair usage policy will apply, they’ve never had issues with anyone abusing their free WiFi. They also mentioned that customers used on average 350MB of data.
MWEB says that the hotspot covers 97% of Lanseria Airport, which I noticed when I got to the boarding gates earlier. Both my devices were still connected. The hotspot will remember your credentials after the very first signup and login, which works at any of the over 180 hotspots across the country. After a short flight to Durban, I automatically connected to the MWEB hotspot on Florida Road – the first high street the company equipped with WiFi in the country.
For the month of December, travellers to Lanseria Airport can experience the Unwired Space Lounge, designed around the concept that the “internet can take you anywhere”.
