The most popular buying request I receive is for smartphones with mention of Huawei from its Google Mobile Services era. If you miss it or you’re in the market for a mid-range Android, consider the Honor 90 5G ($599) that just launched in the Middle East and Africa region. The event took place in Dubai, where I currently am, and why this newsletter is a day late. The phone is heading to South Africa in September.
The Honor 90 still feels like a Huawei even with its MagicOS interface but with full GMS, plus a 200MP camera with a new AI Vlog feature for smart editing, and a flagship-standard display with 120Hz screen refresh rate that protects your eyes. And if you want to take advantage of the dual SIM (2 physical slots) and eSIM I’ve been speaking about, the Honor 90 has support for all. I’ve been testing it and will share my first impressions this week, however, pricing for SA will be announced at launch.
Speaking about more than one number, I recently signed up for PayShap, which lets you to make payments to different bank accounts in real-time at minimal cost, using a mobile number. With the recent Discovery Bank support, I’m now transferring money between my FNB and Discovery Bank accounts for free instantly, which is capped at R3000 per transaction. Read more about how you can make payments to a mobile number, supported banks, fees, and use cases as tested by myself here.
I’ve got another cool tip for you this week. If you own an iPad and a Mac, there’s a good chance you don’t know that you can use the iPad a second display. I discovered this accidentally while using my new iPad mini on my MacBook Air. It is so easy to set-up, just make sure you meet the minimum requirements; all the details here.
Oh, did you miss my last segment on eNCA? Catch up here.
Till next time,
