Apart from buying a house or car, insurance is a somewhat important decision. I’ve been with a traditional insurance provider for 12+ years and last month did my annual depreciation check but to my horror, the value of my out-and-about items were hiked without notice, along with my premiums. After my laptop was adjusted to R10 000 more than I insured it for and reason given, I cancelled the next day. I’ve since moved to Naked; I don’t get special treatment or rates even though they sponsor some of my TikToks. I made a video about switching, my premiums are now 50% less. I don’t often run opinion pieces from external contributors on Recharged, in fact I’ve only done it twice this year, one of it co-incidentally from the co-founder of Naked, Ernest North. I found value in his advice about buying a new or used car, including the pros and cons from both options, plus how to find the best deal. You can read more here if you’re in the market:

🔋 Watt’s New in the EV space?
I was recently invited to the Insider Exchange podcast with Jimmy Moyaha (who I chat to about tech on SAfm Market Update with Moneyweb) and Simon Brown from Just One Lap. My appearance is just one third of the full show, discussing the growing EV market and challenges in South Africa.
Separately, I’m now testing the VW ID.4 Pro over the next three months, an EV that is yet to be launched in SA, and currently have the Mini Aceman on test, so keep an eye on posts about theses vehicles.
🕹️ Gadget Goals: Gear to Geek Out
I recently received a demo of a new kitchen gadget called the Tokit Omi Cook C2 and it looks like an incredible all-in-one gadget. It offers 21 functions from one machine, including a blender, kettle, electronic scale, and whisk, plus you can cook meals in it! I will be reviewing it soon, so stay tuned for that.
