I got back from Paris last night and put the new Airalo Global Discover+ eSIM to the test while I was away. This package is different to the previous data bundles I bought because it also supports calls and texts. It was handy because I booked a taxi on an app and needed to communicate with my driver. I called him within moments of getting out of the airport. I like that having a number for calls means I can use other services and not be tied to one service provider.
My top tech tip before traveling is to set up new services in South Africa before flying out to receive confirmation codes and add credit cards so it’s ready to use when you land. The process of dialling out then defaults to whatever you have set on your mobile plan. My Airalo review is one of my most requested; you can read it here, and it includes a $3 referral code if you want to test it for yourself.
While there, I also purchased the new iPhone 15 Pro that I’m currently testing but more on that when I’ve spent enough time with it. In the mean time, if you’ve been eyeing the Z Flip 5, my review just came out a few days ago. Please read it if you need to decide whether its the flip phone for you.
Given that we spend so much time on Whatsapp, it kinda makes sense to get news from the new Channels feature; from trusted sources, not the family Whatsapp group. If you have access to the new Whatsapp Channels feature, what do you think? I am using it to reach different audiences. Please don’t feel obligated to join “yet another platform”, but peep my tech channel to see if it catches your eye.
Lastly, I published part 3 of my learning partnership on Recharged with FNB on virtual cards. You can learn about what's changed, how to maximise your earnings, Global Account VCs and see how I'm using it. I think the safety aspect is the biggest drawcard for me. If your card doesn’t physically exist, it cannot be stolen; and a changing CVV number means it can’t be used fraudulently for online purchases. It works on phones with NFC and smartwatches. Let me know how you’re finding it.
Till next time,
Nafisa
