I finally got down to writing a review for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that I purchased while on holiday. It was around $315, which worked out to less than R6 000. For what I paid vs. what I can do with it, I think it’s such good value for money, and one of my favourite recent tech purchases.
I use it mainly for content creation but because I purchased it without a prescription, when I wear it without contact lenses, I can’t see much else, apart from what’s in front of me. This means I don’t get to enjoy all its features; need to restock my contact lenses. Read all about it in my review below. Top Tip: If you travel to a region that sells it, consider purchasing one if you have similar goals.
The other review I published yesterday is the new Dyson Airstrait 2-in-1 dryer and styler. It builds on Dyson’s award-winning tech that we (I) have come to love, in the form of going from wet to styled hair in the least amount of time possible; around 10 minutes for me. It has no hot plates and uses air only, thus no heat damage. Dyson has done it again, but it’s on the pricey side at R11 999. Read what I think here:
On the topic of gadgets, if you’re team Android, you may be interested in Oppo’s new Wear OS smartwatch that has launched in SA for R5 999. The Watch X brings all your favourite Google apps to your wrist, including voice replies to Whatsapp messages. Read more on my City Press article.
I recently did a mini travel-themed Shein haul and purchased a bunch of nicknacks I thought could be useful on my travels. It included disposable toilet seat covers, a collapsable silicone cup, soap leaves, luggage scale, mini refillable perfume bottle, etc. It all came to around R257 with tax. Watch more on TikTok.
Lastly, if you’re an FNB customer and want to know more about digital payments, Recharged has partnered with the bank for another educational series. The first piece covers eWallet/eWallet Pro, PayShap, Geo Payments and Instant Payments. I have to be honest, I only learnt that eWallet Pro has a Visa debit card through this article, which makes it great option for those who don’t have bank accounts.
