If you ever wondered what new lows Twitter could reach, all users were subjected to a rate limit this weekend with restrictions on how many tweets could be read; catch up here. It’s also then very timely that Meta’s new Twitter rival called ‘Threads, an Instagram app’ popped up briefly on the Play Store and now appears on the App Store, with a 6 July release date.
I’ve already clicked the “pre-launch” link, which will automatically download when it’s live. What we know so far is that it will carry over username, followers, verification, etc. appealing to many from the onset. I’m keen to give it a go.
I was introduced to two new Chinese EVs within days of each other, which will go on sale this year. One is GWM’s Ora, which is set to be the “cheapest” (read: least expensive) EV locally. I was unexpectedly given an exclusive first-in-SA drive on the Ora 400 GT, which by the way, has massaging seats! You can read more about it here.
The other brand is Build Your Dreams (BYD) who gave us a preview of the Atto 3 SUV. It will be SA’s first EV-only brand with a unique vehicle-to-load feature that basically turns the car into a giant power bank to feed to your home. More info about V2L, models, and prices here.
I have a couple of tech tips that I tested for myself: how to book flights directly on the Discovery Bank app using Vitality Health and Money discounts here; and how to get a Vodacom prepaid eSIM (finally) here.
If you prefer your tech news on TV/YouTube, check out my new tech slot on eNCA with Marcelle Gordon on Saturdays twice a month at around 09:30AM.
What do you think of Threads, the new EVs coming to SA, and the tech tips shared? Leave me a comment, would love to hear from you.
Till next time,
