The completely revamped Mac Pro was announced last year at WWDC and was given pricing in October 2013. It costs a whopping $2 999 in the US for the base model.
The Mac Pro is a sleek black cylinder that’s twice as powerful as its predecessor. I love the design of it, it looks like something out of a sic-fi movie!
The first and only unit arrived in South Africa this week and a group of media got a sneak peak of it earlier today.
So what’s so impressive about the Mac Pro we saw earlier? Oh it only has a 3.5GHz 6-Core Intel Xenon E5 processor; 12GB of RAM; 2x AMD FirePro D500 graphics processors with 3GB of memory each; 256GB of flash storage; 6x Thunderbolt 2 ports; 4x USB 3.0 port; HDMI port; 2x Ethernet ports; Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 4.0. Of course the display, keyboard and mouse is sound separately.
So yes, we got to see this stunning beast of a machine straight of the future in the flesh today, which will sell for… wait for it… R51 000! If you want the quad-core version, it will cost much less… R39 000!
The launch date is not yet set but there will also be options to custom build one to your liking and of course, there aren’t prices for that yet.
