The Core Group, distributor of Apple in South Africa have announced that a local textbook app will launch in January 2013.

Stand alone app ZABooks, separate from iBooks, will include textbooks from local publishers, which will be relevant to the South African curriculum.

When the app launches next year, it will have 400 textbooks available immediately from Grade 1 to 12, for both private and public schools. Some interactive app features includes bookmarking, annotation, highlighting, as well as freehand writing and note-taking.

The app itself will be free, while textbook pricing will be determined by local and individual publishers.
