The Kase opened its first boutique store in France in 2012 and Johannesburg is its first South African store. They’ve partnered with a community of designers and fashion brands to bring unique artwork for your covers.
Each store has a fully functional workshop and you cannot miss the industrial machine located in the centre of the store. It is capable of printing up to 6 covers at once and it takes about 7-10 minutes. It goes through a process where the covers selected are cleaned before the printing begins.
The store prints cases for Apple, Samsung, BlackBerry, HTC, Sony and more. Just make sure when you go in they have the frames to print your covers on. How it works is that you can browse designs on their iPads, or choose your own images (and upload to their server) and then just make sure you are happy with the final layout. You can zoom into the image, rotate it or add text. There will be a store assistant helping you. You can choose from a range of covers from R349.
At the media event last night I chose a clear cover, which has a silicone edge and hard back. I go through *loads* of phone covers and I can assure you the quality on these covers are great. I was happy with the result of my case as you can see below:
The store also sells other cool accessories like phone stands (pictured above – R99) and some phone covers in a shape of a mini jacket, amongst other things. The printing process is quick, which you can take a look on the video below, which has been sped up to 2x.
The Kase has partnered with brands like Guess, Lagerfeld, Ferrari and Swarovski.
If you live outside of Johannesburg you will be happy to know that in about 10 days time, the online store www.thekase.com will support shipping in South Africa. In the mean time you can check out the site and play around and create your own design.
