I’ve made a list of my top 5 free travel apps, across all platforms like Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Nokia and Windows Phone.
For those of you who bought Marie Claire last December, you would have seen this list. Since it’s old now but still relevant, I thought I’d publish it for the benefit of those who don’t read MC.
In no order, they are:
1. TripIt
Platform: Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone 7
Forward all flight, accommodation and car rental confirmation emails to TripIt and have your digital itinerary wherever you go.
2. AccuWeather
Platform: Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone
Get the most accurate, location-based weather updates via mobile, updated every hour. Push notifications optional.
3. TripAdvisor
Platform: Android, iOS, Nokia, Windows Phone
This leading user-generated travel review site gives you access to millions of honest reviews of hotels, restaurants and attractions worldwide.
4. OandA Currency Converter
Platform: Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone 7
Get daily exchange rates on-the-go for more than 190 currencies with option to add the percentage charged by your bank.
5. Skype
Platform: Android, iOS, Nokia, Windows Phone
The cheapest way to make video and voice calls while abroad, as well as sent instant messages.
If you have your own travel apps that you can’t do without, please share in the comments below.

Thanks, it may surprise you to learn that I don’t read Marie Claire.
no way!
used them all, good selection but never got into TripIt, didnt collate all my bookings – i kinda expected too much of it i guess.
Booking.com and for the Vegans out there, HappyCow and for the Muslims Zabihah.com
depending on the country you’re visiting – HopStop is great at navigating public transport systems.
Thanks Naeem.
I’m using Booking.com – booked accommodation with it for my trip later this month. Love that I can use the app when checking-in. Will also be using HopStop.
