YouTube Music has launched in South Africa today, which took place at a media event in Sandton this evening. This brings another music streaming service into the mix, which offers music videos, albums, singles, etc; the stuff you most likely already use the platform for.

YouTube Music South Africa launch

There is a free version with ads, just like Spotify, but a YouTube Music Premium subscription is also available for R60/pm. A limited launch offer gives you three months of YouTube Music Premium free.

If you’re already a Google Play Music subscriber, you will automatically get access to YouTube Music Premium, and nothing will change regarding what you’ve already purchased, uploaded or playlists.

Additionally, if you want an ad-free YouTube and YouTube Music, this will cost you R72 a month, also available on a 3 month free trial. If you watch YouTube every day – and let’s be honest, who doesn’t – you may be tempted to never see an ad ever again!

If you already have a Spotify or Apple Music subscription, this offer is really tempting. I watch YouTube every day on my smart TV so I’m definitely signing up for the free offer.

The YouTube Music app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, or you can check it out on the web on and sign up for premium on
