BLOG NAME

The name of my blog, Wired to the Web came about from my IRC days (back in 1998) when you had to fill in the name field. If someone did an info lookup on a nickname, it would read “Charmed is Nafisa…”. So instead of putting my real name, I used “wired to the web”, just so that it would read “Charmed is wired to the web”. Well, with dial-up, that’s what you were. So it stuck. Also, I met my husband on IRC.

EXPOSURE

Since nafisa.co.za officially went live in January 2009, I’ve hosted the South African leg of Nokia’s global ‘Search for N‘ N97 competition, gave away a Logitech wireless mouse, was sent a product to review from the UK that was being launched locally, and was sent to Germany for the LG Blogger Forum in September 2010. This blog was also a runner-up in the SA Blog Awards 2010 in the science and technology category.

MOTORING

I sometimes cover motoring launches, the first one being the Chevrolet Spark launch, and since then, other invites followed. I do have an interest in cars, and mostly like the fast, pretty and badass ones I do not review cars.

DAY JOB

I work for ITWeb and am the editor of social media/blogging website My Digital Life. I also review games, mobile phones and gadgets for My Digital Life and sometimes ITWeb online. I’ve previously lived and worked in Durban (born), Cardiff and now Johannesburg.

INTERESTS

I’m a foodie (and ex-food blogger), I love trying new restaurants in Johannesburg, (I even post pics about it here), I love traveling, movies, music, taking photos (mainly on my phone and sharing it on Instagram), I’m a bit of a ‘gadget phreak’ (as described by an ex-colleague) and can’t live without technology. Friday nights are very comfortably spent indoors, if not at a (cool) movie release. I have a cat and he is called Qwerty.
